KURT VILE: We ran into each other on the road in various continents and talked about the recordings. I guess it wasn’t till i had another tour booked for the following summer in Australia that we thought we should record as much as we can, no major goal to make it a full length but it came together that way because the vibe was so strong. I love working with Courtney, the collaboration was laid back with less pressure. COURTNEY BARNETT: Now we finished the album, we dreamt up an amazing band which we’ve called THE SEA LICE (inspired by a Stella Mozgawa beach-side-story) and me n Kurt will be standing there out front with our guitars singing songs together. Songs from this album we did, a handful of our own songs from previous albums, maybe some old folk songs n what not. Harmonies and guitarmonies galore. Very collaborative. Lotta Sea Lice is the result of 8 days in the studio spread over almost 15 months when Courtney and Kurt’s respective touring schedules allowed for them to be in the same place at the same time.
ESP-Disk present a reissue of Pharoah Sanders Quintet, originally released in 1965. Recorded on September 10, 1964, prior to his well-known association with John Coltrane, this eponymous album (later renamed Pharoah’s First) is the debut release of the iconic tenor saxophonist, Pharoah Sanders. (Yes, there are some spelling oddities here: the artist – birth name Ferrell – only later changed the spelling from the standard Pharaoh to the more personalized Pharoah). With one foot in mainstream jazz – pianist Jane Getz had played with Charles Mingus – and the other, tentatively at times, in the avant-garde, this is a fascinating glimpse of Sanders’s style before he wielded the unremitting fierceness of his playing with Coltrane and the modal mysticism of his later solo albums on Impulse. Interestingly, in recent years he has deployed a more polished version of this sort of avant-flavored bop, bringing his career full circle and strongly suggesting that the hybrid heard here was not due to any failure of nerve on his debut but rather was the cornerstone of his conception. ESP-Disk has issued this album under three different covers; for it’s 21st-century reissue on vinyl, they have chosen to use the second and most beautiful. It is augmented with liner notes by a current ESP-Disk artist, tenor saxophonist Ras Moshe Burnett of The Red Microphone, who can be heard accompanying Amina Baraka on their eponymous release (ESPDISK 5021CD, 2017). Personnel: Pharoah Sanders – tenor saxophone; Stan Foster – trumpet; Jane Getz – piano; William Bennett – bass; Marvin Pattillo – percussion.

Limited edition double clear colored LP pressing. Along with adding former Van Pelt guitarist Brian Maryansky to the fold, Jets to Brazil (featuring Jawbreaker frontman Blake Schwarzenbach, Handsome vocalist/guitarist Jeremy Chatelain and Texas Is the Reason drummer Chris Daly) added dimension, savoir faire, and one hell of a grand piano to forge ahead with a breathtaking new direction on their jaw dropping 2000 album Four Cornered Night – encapsulating classic American rock ‘n’ roll with a nod to the Mods underneath a matchless lyrical gift. Jets to Brazil vinyl has been out of print since their original pressings and is in high demand. Double vinyl LP pressing. Gordon is the debut studio album by Canadian band Barenaked Ladies. It was released through Sire Records on July 28, 1992. After The Yellow Tape was certified platinum in Canada, the group won a contest hosted by a local radio station. With the winnings, Barenaked Ladies were able to hire producer Michael Phillip Wojewoda and record the album at Le Studio, north of Montreal. Though most of the album was recorded without incident, difficulty with “The King of Bedside Manor” caused the band to record the track naked-a tradition they would continue on other albums. Horn parts, guest vocalists, and nods to other bands including Rush allowed Barenaked Ladies to expand on the sound they had developed while touring.

A powerful and wide vocal range (particularly evident in his high-pitched vocals) has given Robert Plant is regarded as one of the greatest singers in the history of rock ‘n’ roll; he has influenced fellow rock singer-songwriters such as Freddie Mercury, Axl Rose and Chris Cornell.
For the first time reissued – with the great contribution of Miguel de Deus’s family in São Paulo, that supplied the amazing collection of photos for the 4 pages inner, inside the LP. This limited edition is a highly collectable for fans of Brazilian soul, groove and psychedelia. It’s our contribution to pay respect to one of the most important Brazilian musicians of the late 60’s and early 70’s. Main brain of bands like OS BRAZÕES and ASSIM ASSADO, he left us an amazing legacy for new generations. This is a small, but more than deserved homage to him, finally. Miguel de Deus was the protagonist of this amazing Afro-Funk movement, together with a group of “heavy” musicians, as they were called in those days of consolidation of a strong Black Power scene, mainly composed of black youth from the outskirts of the suburbs of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, where the movement took the name of Black Rio. It’s raw Rock-Funk-Psychedelic-Tropicalia.
Before Miguel de Deus fell headlong into funk, casting the rather impressive “Black Soul Brothers” (also re-issued on Groovie) there was Assim Assado. The name of the band and the cover of the disc explicitly reveal the main influence: Secos & Molhados. Investing in adrogenia, samba-soul and psychedelic rock, Assim Assado tried to be the response of the small CID label to the massive success Secos & Molhados had amongst the young people of Brazil. Led by Miguel de Deus (formerly of Os Brazões), who penned most of the groups compositions while doubling on both vocals and guitar duties, the group never took off, leaving only this rare pearl of Brazilian Psych/Soul behind.

Keith and Donna Godchaux, who were at the time members of the Garcia Band, contributed to the music. The album was the first to be recorded at the Grateful Dead’s Club Front in San Rafael, a warehouse space that had been acquired for band rehearsals and then converted to a studio.
