For Black Friday Record Store Day 2014, Asbestos Records was suppose to release 3,000 copies of The Dead Milkmen album, ‘Big Lizard In My Backyard,’ with 2,900 green splattered vinyl copies with 100 yellow vinyl copies, mixed in. Well, the 100 yellow copies were not pressed in time and never were delivered. In fact, only 75 yellow copies were eventually pressed and we at Records with Merritt, have the extremely rare yellow vinyl copy, in stock and it is not for sale.
Say whaaattt? For every $40 or more that you spend with us, from Friday, December 12th thru Monday, December 22nd, you can enter to win this rare lizard. Spend $80 or more, you will be entered twice, etc. We will draw for the winner, Tuesday December 23rd, giving you plenty of time to wrap that present or savor your rare bounty.

As members of the music and retail community, it almost seems disingenuous to wish all a Happy Thanksgiving, but, we do sincerely hope the great folks that we know or have come to know will reflect on their lives and find some peace and happiness. We have had a tough year, filled with loses of loved ones, so dear to our hearts. We are healing through the power of music and our love of life.
We have dipped our toes in the super-hyped business of Black Friday RSD. We won’t open at 4am. We won’t have big screen televisions and microwaves for $1. We won’t bankrupt ourselves with super duper deep discounts. We don’t expect long lines of bargain hunters. We don’t have hundreds of RSD Black Friday titles. If our customers find titles above their budgets, ask for a reasonable discount, but we know we can’t please everyone. After almost six months in business, we are on a short, but steep learning curve.
We want to represent the calm, in this money storm. We want to celebrate small businesses and those of us who believe in the power of music. We are striving to remove some of the hustle and bustle of BF and will have tunes spinning on the turntable, live music from seven bands (thank you Benjamin Hughes), fun, food and drink. We will have bins full of very carefully curated new vinyl records tomorrow and everyday.
Happy Thanksgiving and hope to see you this weekend.
