Vinyl LP pressing. 2017 release, the second solo album from the artist best known as one-half of The Black Keys. The album is the nine-time Grammy-winner’s follow-up to 2009’s Keep It Hid and is a love letter to Nashville. As such, he recruited some of Nashville’s most respected players to write and record his latest, including John Prine, Duane Eddy, Jerry Douglas, Pat McLaughlin and Bobby Wood and Gene Chrisman of the Memphis Boys. Dan Auerbach moved to Nashville from his native Akron, Ohio in 2010 and with this release, his first solo album in eight years, it is clear that he has made Music City his home. During the summer of 2016, taking a break from the non-stop touring he’d done with The Black Keys and the Arcs, he finally got acquainted with the city he loves so much, as well as the world-class musicians who live there, and subsequently collaborated with some of Nashville’s heavyweights. Auerbach wrote seven songs with John Prine, one of which is the title track of the album. Mark Knopfler’s immediately identifiable guitar elevates Shine on Me into an anthem. Iconic guitarist Duane Eddy is featured on Livin’ In Sin and the cinematic King of a One Horse Town.

Relaxer is the follow up to the band’s Grammy nominated album This Is All Yours, and finds the band working with producer Charlie Andrew for the third time. Alt-J are Joe Newman, Gus Unger-Hamilton and Thom Green. They released their debut album An Awesome Wave to critical acclaim in September 2012. The album won the Mercury Music Prize in November 2012 and was nominated for three Brit Awards in February 2013. By the end of 2012 An Awesome Wave was Bob Boilen of NPR’s Album of the Year, iTunes Alternative Breakthrough album of the year and was on the top 10 lists of numerous critics, including NPR’s Robin Hilton, The Wall Street Journal, and Billboard.

At the time Silver Lake was recorded, you could count on two things with Vic Chesnutt: he would approach any topic, from the delicate to the mundane and he would take an unexpected angle. Double vinyl LP pressing. Archive release of previously unissued 1972 premier performance. Ten Years Alive On The Infinite Plain is the quintessential work of artist/filmmaker/composer Tony Conrad. Comprised of both film installation and minimalist score for amplified strings, Ten Years leaps across genre and medium to connect his revolutionary structural filmmaking with the experiments in long-duration sound that Conrad had begun in the 1960s as part of the Theatre of Eternal Music. For it’s 1972 premiere at New York’s The Kitchen, Ten Years included Conrad on violin as well as Rhys Chatham and Laurie Spiegel performing on instruments of the composer’s own making. Chatham played the Long String Drone – a 6-foot long strip of wood with bass strings, electric pickup, tuning keys, tape, rubber band and metal hardware – while Spiegel carried out an arrhythmic bass pulse throughout. Superior Viaduct is honored to present this previously unreleased recording of Ten Years Alive On The Infinite Plain’s breathtaking premier performance. As Chatham recounts in the liner notes, “When I first listened to this recording after not hearing it for over 40 years, it transported me back to the early Kitchen and the heyday of early minimalism, played outside the Dream Syndicate.”
Vinyl LP pressing. The long-awaited return of Brooklyn’s Beach Fossils, Somersault showcases a band in bloom. Charting into new musical territory with a refined songwriting style, it’s an album that captures flashes of life in New York grounded in personal experience. As the band’s first release on Dustin Payseur’s new label Bayonet Records, which he co-owns with wife Kate Garcia – the group made the most of their newfound independence, investing ample time in expanding it’s range both musically and lyrically. While Payseur handled the bulk of the songwriting duties in the past, Somersault is a true collaboration between the founding member and bandmates, Jack Doyle Smith and Tommy Davidson. Somersault evokes the laid-back mood of a warm, breezy city night, the air crackling with humidity and excitement. These songs pulse and pull, capturing a blend of promise and heartache. It’s beautiful and layered, a refined, sweeping creation that threads together numerous styles, textures, and themes into a refreshing, singular vision.
Vinyl pressing. His 70th birthday just passed on Feb. 3, and Dave Davies, former (and perhaps future?) lead guitarist of The Kinks, sure shows no signs of slowing down. The man who invented some of the greatest riffs in rock-is there one more classic than “You Really Got Me”?-and the writer and vocalist on some of the band’s most memorable songs (“Death of a Clown, ” “This Man He Weeps Tonight”), has a full plate in front of him for this year. Davies’ new album, a collaboration with his son Russ Davies titled Open Road. No information has yet been released about the track listing or other personnel. The album will be distributed by Red River Entertainment. It’ll be Dave Davies’ first new release since 2014’s Rippin’ Up Time and the 2015 companion piece Rippin’ Up New York City-Live at the City Winery.
Charlie Parker‘s influence permeates this 1960 session. Beyond the obvious acknowledgment on song titles (“Mrs. Parker of K.C. [‘Bird’s Mother’]” and “Ode to Charlie Parker”), his restless spirit is utilized as a guiding light for breaking bebop molds. Far Cry finds multi-reedist Eric Dolphy in a transitional phase, relinquishing Parker‘s governing universal impact and diving into the next controversial phase that critics began calling “anti-jazz.” On this date Booker Little‘s lyrical trumpet and Jackie Byard‘s confident grasp of multiple piano styles (though both steeped in hard bop) were sympathetic to the burgeoning “avant-garde” approach that Dolphy displays, albeit sparingly, on this session. Far Cry contains the initial performance of Dolphy‘s future jazz classic “Miss Ann,” along with his first recorded solo alto sax performance on “Tenderly,” in which Dolphy bridges the gap between the solo saxophone performances of Coleman Hawkins and Anthony Braxton.

Founded in 1996, North Mississippi Allstars is composed of two brothers, Luther Dickinson (guitar, lowebow, vocals) and Cody Dickinson (drums, keyboards, electric washboard, vocals). Prayer For Peace, self-produced by the Dickinson Brothers, was recorded across the US at six different studios. Special guests include bassist Oteil Burbridge (Allman Brothers Band, Dead & Company), Graeme Lesh (Midnight North, The Terrapin Family Band), vocalist Sharisse Norman, bassist Dominic Davis (Jack White), and singer/fife player Shardé Thomas, daughter of Mississippi blues giant Otha Turner.

Vinyl LP pressing. Fallen is the debut studio album by American rock band Evanescence. After releasing several EPs and a demo CD, the group signed to Wind-up in January 2001. Writing songs for Fallen started near the time of the band’s formation; several of the songs that would feature on the album appeared on the band’s earlier releases. Fallen was recorded between August and December 2002 in several locations, including Conway Recording Studios in Hollywood, California. This was followed by a two-week period of mixing at Conway Recording Studios in North Hollywood. Fallen was released on March 4, 2003, on Wind-up and Epic Records. Fallen is Evanescence’s most commercially successful album to date, selling more than seven million copies in the United States and over 17 million copies worldwide.
Double vinyl LP pressing. Original soundtrack to the 1981 motion picture that kicked off the Indiana Jones franchise. Composed by John Williams, the score for Raiders of the Lost Ark was the only score in the series performed by the London Symphony Orchestra, the same orchestra that performed the scores for the Star Wars saga. The score is most notable for it’s inclusion of the iconic and now ubiquitous ‘Raiders March,’ which came to symbolize Indiana Jones and was later used in the scores for all subsequent films. Raiders of the Lost Ark received an Oscar nomination for Best Original Score in 1981.
Limited 180gm vinyl LP pressing. 2003 release, a collaboration between Brazilian vocalist Rosa Passos and jazz bassist Ron Carter. Entre Amigos is a collection of eleven Brazilian classics in Passos’ inimitable voice and style. Produced by Cliff Korman and David Chesky, Entre Amigos also features Lula Galvão (guitar), Paulo Braga (percussion) and Billy Drewes (tenor sax and clarinet). This Passos/Carter collaboration sounds like a match made in heaven. Her intimate voice coupled with Carter’s rich bass creates a beautiful combination to please die-hard Passos fan and, most certainly, the new fans she’ll gain with this album.
