My good friend, writer, filmmaker, Gini Sikes, and I connected through music. We knew we had a lasting bond, once we started talking David Bowie (I was a paying member of his fan club). At the beginning of one, hot, dusty, Midwest summer, we listened to Bowie’s ‘Aladdin Sane’ everyday. Then, Gini, who I thought would go on to work for ‘Rolling Stone’ or some other once, great music magazine, gushed over her new discovery. Some art students and “intellectuals” (we thought we were smarter than we really were) had released an album, which overtook our love of Bowie. The name of the band is Talking Heads and the album was ‘Talking Heads 77,’ which we played multiple times, daily. We had, what we thought, was our special secret code words: Psycho Killer, and we applied those words to any and everybody and laugh and giggle among ourselves.
